Windows XP Scheduler is a graphical tool that allows you to schedule any program or script to run at a specified time. You can choose to run the program daily, weekly, or monthly basis or one time only.

 

Setting Up Scheduler

  • Open Service panel and ensure 'Task Scheduler' service is running. If not, start the 'Task Scheduler' and proceed with the below mentioned steps.
  • Select Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Scheduled Tasks.
  • Open Add Scheduled Task. 'Scheduled Task Wizard' appears.
  • Click the <Next> button.

  • Click the program you want to run. Click the 'Browse' button to select more programs.
  • Check an appropriate 'Perform this task' option. You may choose to run the program:
    • 'Daily
    • Weekly
    • Monthy
    • One time only
    • When my computer starts
    • When I log on. Click the 'Next' button.

  • Select the Start Time and Start Date for this task. Check 'Weekdays' radio button is shmos in the above image, to run the program only on week days. Click 'Next'.
  • Enter the username and password of the user. If you have Administrator privileges, you can specify the User for whom this task is run. The task will fail if no user credentials are supplied. Click 'Next'.

Setting Advanced Properties.

  • Select 'Open advanced properties for this task when I click Finish' checkbox to set advanced properties.
  • Optionally, enter Comments if required.
  • Select 'Run only if logged on' checkbox if you would like the task to run when you are logged on.
  • Open Schedule tabbed region and make changes if required.
  • Open Settings tabbed region and set Power Management parameters (for Laptop computers).
  • Click the OK button after setting the required parameters.
