Klipper is a clipboard utility for Linux/Unix K Desktop Environment (KDE). Klipper can save multiple lines in its clipboard and you can also associate clipboard text to a specific application. The functionality is similar to the standard Windows clipboard functionality, but with extensive features.

Configure Klipper

  • To open Clipper, click the Clipper icon in the KDE panel. Klipper - Clipboard Tool window appears.

  • Select Configure Klipper. Configure - KDE Panel window appears. This has General, Actions, and Shortcuts tabbed regions. Some of the common options are listed below:

General tabbed region

Klipper Configuration

  • Popup menu at mouse cursor position - Select this option if you want the popup menu to open at the mouse cursor position when a regular expression is matched. If this is not selected, popup menu will open in the KDE panel.
  • Save clipboard contents on exit - This option allows you to save clipboard contents across sessions.
  • Remove whitespace when executing actions - This removes any whitespace before or after clipboard contents. This is useful if you have entered an URL in a clipboard and it has whitespaces. Removal of whitespaces ensures that the URL will not error out when opened in a web browser (as long as the URL is valid).
  • Prevent empty clipboard - Klipper inserts the most recent entry in the clipboard, if this option is selected.
  • Ignore Selection: If this option is selected, Klipper ignores X Window System selection (in which text is placed in the clipboard area just by highlighting it).
  • Clipboard selection behavior - Selecting 'Separate clipboard and selection' and selecting 'Ignore Selection' will make only Klipper selection available in the clipboard.
  • Timeout for action popups - Sets the time the popup screen for matching expressions will be displayed in the KDE panel or at the mouse cursor position.
  • Clipboard history size - Number of items stored in the clipboard.

Actions tabbed region:

You can define regular expressions and associate them with Klipper. Refer to Klipper Help for details.

Shortcuts tabbed region:

Use this region to manage Klipper shortcuts.

Klipper Usage

Depending on the configuration options set as explained earlier, text is placed in the Klipper clipboard by selecting the required text and pressing Ctrl + C. To paste the contents, click the klipper icon and select the text to be inserted from the 'Klipper Menu'.

Same problem here. That's the ETERNAL problem with many Linux projects: each upgrade breaks half the features of the old versions!!! Half my previous configurations are lost, and it seams several features are lost also. Gnome is much worse than KDE, though... smilies/sad.gif

Just wondering did you try the following from the KDE panel:

(1) Right click on the Panel
(2) Add > Applet > Klipper

I wrecked the klipper icon in the KDE panel, don't know how. Maybe it was in the process of involuntarily wrecking this panel. So I created a new panel but I cann't find the klipper applet in the list of applet. I do find and can add an icon of yhe application klipper but it does not work.

I can use the klipper with Ctrl-Alt-V. But I liked the applet in the panel. I made a reinstall of kdebase3 but it did not add the applet in the choice list.

Tried also to erase ~/.kde/share/apps/klipper/ and ~/home/ulysses/.kde/share/config/klipperrc to no avail.

Has anyone an idea?
