As a DBA you may need to constantly monitor, among others, the status of Jobs and Events. One way of doing this is by setting up email notifications. You can choose to be notified if a Job or Event has completed or failed. This article details the steps for setting up email notifications. The steps are in with relation to Release9.x, but the concept is the same for pre-9.x release too. 1. Set email parameters for outgoing email: - Select Configure Paging/Email from the Console Configuration menu
- Enter SMTP email Gateway particulars e.g. mail.foo.com
- Enter sender's email ID e.g webadminatreferpages.com. Click OK
2. Edit Administrator Preferences
- Select Manage Administrators from the Configuration menu
- Select the Administrator for whom you wish to set Notifications. Click Edit
- Click the Notification Tab
- Set filters suitably. For this example, let us assume you wish to be Notified for Job Failures
- Click Email. Enter Receiver's email Address. Click OK
- Click Schedule Tab and select the day and time block. Click Email and click on the time and day block. Without this, you will not be notified.
Setup complete! what next? Let us test this by submitting a Job. For the purpose of testing, a Job has been created with improper parameters. (e.g. No Preferred Credentials have been set, for this test)
Below is a sample output out of Enterprise Manager Notification system Name : Test Notify Target Type : Db Status : F Job Output: VNI-2015 : The Node preferred credentials for the target node are either invalid or do not have sufficient privileges
