Mambo is an Open Source Content Management System that can be used to develop professional websites with ease. Preliminary Requirements
You need the following to install Mambo.
- MySQL database
- Apache webserver
- PHP Support
- Mambo Software
Download and Install Mambo
- Create a Database and a Database User for Mambo.
- Download Mambo from Mambo website and extract the files to a local directory.Â
- Copy the files to your hosting server under a directory say, mambo.
- Open a web browser and enter http://www.foo.com/<directory>. For example, if you had copied all the files to a directory named 'mambo', enter http://www.foo.com/mambo. Pre-installation check window appears that will guide you through the install process.
- Pre-installation window displays the Recommended Settings and Actual Settings as well as file and directory permissions required.
- If the actual settings are highlighted in Red, you need to take corrective actions to make the installer work properly. Similarly, if any of the file permissions are marked Unwriteable, change the file permissions suitably.
- configuration.php will also be listed as Unwriteable. Leave the file permissions as it is for configuration.php as the new settings can be copied at the end.
- After making the corrections, if any, click the <Next> button.
- GNU General Public License is displayed. If you are in agreement with the terms of GPL, Accept to continue.
- Enter database configuration parameters and click <Next>.
- Host Name
- MySQL User Name
- MySQL Password
- MySQL Database Name
- MySQL Table_Prefix
- Enter the name of your Mambo site and click <Next>.
- Confirm the site URL, path, admin email, file and directory chmods and click <Next>. This completes installation.
- As configuration.php was left unwriteable, you have to copy the displayed configuration.php settings to the existing configuration.php file.
- Remove the 'installation' folder from the Server. This is important as the 'installation' folder if left on the server could lead to compromise of your website settings. You are all set to develop your dream!
Search Friendly URLs - Setting up search engine friendly URLs is done on the fly. All you need is apache rewrite module installed on your web server (several web hosting companies provide this). Having search friendly URLs is optional. However, having them will help your web pages get spidered by major search engines.
