Thunderbird from Mozilla foundation is an open source email client
supporting several languages and Operating Systems including Windows,
Mac, and Linux.
Configuring Email Accounts
- Thunderbird email client can be downloaded from here. Save the executable to your hard disk and run the setup file to install.
- Open Thunderbird email client after installing.
- Select Tools > Account Settings from the menu.
- Click the <Add Account> button to add a new account. Account Wizard window appears.
- Select ‘Email Account’ and click the <Next> button.
- Enter name (Your Name field) you would like to appear when you send email.
- Enter the email address you would like to setup.
Please note that your email provider must support POP3 or IMAP protocol. POP3 is a protocol that is used to retrieve email messages from a Server. Most ISPs provide this feature. Gmail also gives an option to use POP3 to manage your Gmail account. Yahoo provides this for Yahoo Mail Plus subscribers only. Click the <Next> button.
- Enter the Incoming Mail Server detials and click <Next>.
- Enter ‘Incoming User Name’ details. This is your email ID. Click <Next>.
- Enter ‘Account Name’ to identify the account. Click <Next>>
- Click the <Finish> button and <OK> to close the wizard.
