Content in a Newspaper style column flows from the bottom of one column to the top of the next column. The style is useful for creating marketing flyers, product brochures etc. It provides good flexibility as one can define the number of columns, width etc. This article outlines the steps required to create such a layout using Word 2003. For Word 2007, click here

- Open Microsoft Word
- Select File > Page Setup from the menu and set page margins. As it is a columnar layout, a minimum of left and right margins would suffice. For example, set the left and right margins at 0.5
- Select Format > Columns from the menu. This displays the ‘Columns’ window

- Select one of the predefined ‘Presets’ and the ‘Number of columns’
- Check ‘Line between’ checkbox if a line is to be displayed between the columns
