Header and Footer is used to capture either standard or custom information uniformly on all pages such as page number, date/time, file path, image etc. The following are the steps required to create header and footer in Excel.
- Open Microsoft Excel worksheet
- Select View > Header and Footer from the menu. ‘Page Setup’ window appears with several tabs
- Open Header/Footer tabbed region
- Note the region displays a standard ‘Header’ and ‘Footer’ drop-down list

- Information such as Page number, page 1 of ? etc. can be selected from the list for the Header or Footer sections. Refer screen print above
Custom Header or Footer
If additional information is required to be displayed in the header or footer sections, use the Custom Header or Custom Footer sections.
- Click <Custom Header> button. ‘Header’ window appears
- The custom ‘Header’ region has three sections: Left section, Center section, and Right section
- Enter information as required in all or any of the three sections
- Additionally, there are several icons displayed that can be used to format text, insert page number, date, time, image etc
- The <Custom Footer> button also has similar functionality
Inserting Logo in the Header section
This example illustrates the steps to insert a logo or image into the ‘Header’ section.
- Click <Custom Header> button. ‘Header’ window appears
- Click ‘image’ icon or button

- Select ‘image’ and click ‘Insert’
- Click <OK>
