Compare and Merge Word 2007 Documents

{lang: 'ar'}

Word has a feature by which one can compare and merge the changes from one document onto another.  For example, if there is a base document and another with some additions and changes, you can merge one to the other. This relates to Word 2007.  For Word 2003, click here

  • Open the Word document onto which you wish to compare the changes
  • Click Review in the Word menu. Note the ‘Compare’ region in the toolbar
  • Click Compare > Compare to compare two versions of a document

  • Compare Documents window is displayed
  • Select the Original document and the Revised document
  • Select the Comparison settings to be marked as changes
  • Choose whether to Show changes in Original document, Revised document, or New document
  • Click OK
  • Word displays the Original Document, Revised Document, the Compared Document, and a Summary of revisions. This is shown below:
    You can choose what gets displayed by selecting options from ‘Show Source Documents’ in the toolbar.
  • ‘Word’ compares the two document and inserts the changes with ‘track changes’ turned on. This provides a quick view of the changes that were incorporated
  • Review the changes and save the Combine document as required after accepting the track changes.
  • The Combine option does the same as Compare!
