Overview
Depending on the type or purpose of documentation, you may need to have line numbers along the margin for each line. For example, you may be submitting an article for publication where the article has to be within the specified line numbers. Word facilitates Line Numbers; this article outlines the steps and applies to Word 2007
Steps
- Open the document in Word 2007
- Select Page Layout > Line Numbers
- The default is None
- Continuous: Select this option if you would like to have continuous line numbers in the document including a new Page or a new Section.
- Restart Each Page: With this option, the numbering starts at 1 for each new Page. The Page following the Section Break is not numbered
- Restart Each Section: This option restarts numbering for each new Section
- Suppress for Current Paragraph: You can suppress any paragraph from being numbered. Word skips the paragraph and continues from the subsequent one

- Click Line Numbers
- Start at: The number to start for line numbering
